Location Lighting 101
Lighting is one of the most important skills a photographer needs to produce stunning portraits. Proper lighting is the quickest way to make your images pop and distinguish you from your competition. This workshop will remove the mystery, taking you step by step from the beginning. Topics will include:
- How to use natural light, including where and how you need to place your subject in relation to the sun at different times of day.
- On-camera flash: when and how to use it for natural looking results
- Equipment: I'll show you exactly what gear you need, how much it costs, and where to buy it. You'll get different recommendations at every price point, from shoestring to elaborate.
- How to meter your camera and flash for perfect exposure.
- What flash modifiers you should use and how to use them.
- How to balance and combine flash with natural light.
- Where to position your flash to create different effects, from soft to dramatic light.
- How to light wedding receptions.
This workshop will be hands-on and limited in size to a small group so every attendee gets plenty of attention. No prior flash photography experience is needed, but you will need to come to the session with a basic working knowledge of camera metering, including understanding how ISO, aperture, and shutter speed work.
Cost: $350 for a full day (8 hour) workshop
$200 for a 2 hour, one-on-one workshop, in-person or over the phone
Building a Profitable Portrait Business
Most photographers get into the business because of a love of photography and desire to be creative. While that's great, many photography businesses fail due to the lack of a sound business plan. This workshop will be a soup-to-nuts plan for building a profitable boutique portrait business. Topics will include:
- Marketing and advertising: The best marketing plan is surprisingly easy and inexpensive. I'll walk you through a proven program for filling your calendar with quality sessions. No advertising is required.
- Selling: Increasing your sales dramatically is not difficult, but it does require a plan. If you're currently selling via online galleries, I'll show you how to increase your sales 3x immediately. We'll review how I conduct my sales sessions from beginning to end.
- Pricing: Most photographers go very wrong here. We'll review how to create a price list that works and increases profit dramatically.
Cost: $350 for a full day (8 hour) workshop
